In the December issue of Northern Virginia Magazine, Albert Bonin was interviewed by Renee Sklarew for her article regarding divorce. In the article Ms. Sklarew explores ways that couples can make their divorce amicable instead of dragging it out in court.
In the article Mr. Bonin expresses his opinion that changing the word “visitation” to “parenting time” could make custody battles turn into discussions that focus on what is best for the children rather than clashes for power between the parents. This is not the first time that Mr. Bonin has expressed his opinion, in an article he wrote for Virginia Lawyer’s Weekly, several years ago, he states: “The compelling force behind changing the law is a desire to remove a sense of ownership associated with the word custody. This change represents an effort to encourage parents to focus on their parenting duties, rather than viewing their children as property that can be won or lost.”
