Robert Shoun, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Randolph-Macon College, received his law degree from Duke University Law School. After a three-year tour of duty as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps, U.S. Army, he entered the private practice of law in Northern Virginia.
Mr. Shoun has served in multiple officer, director and committee positions in the Fairfax Bar Association. He has served on the Ethics and Grievance Committee of the Virginia State Bar, and for more than a quarter century he has been a Commissioner in Chancery for the Circuit Court of Fairfax County. He also serves that Court as a Neutral Case Evaluator.
He has authored scores of published family law articles and over the years has conducted more than 100 Continuing Legal Education seminars for attorneys and judges throughout Virginia. His seminar topics have included, by way of example, Tax Consequences of Separation and Divorce; Equitable Distribution of Civil Service, Military and Private Retirement Benefits; Professionalism and Civility Among Attorneys; Drafting of Separation and Property Settlement Agreements; and Recent Developments in Virginia Domestic Relations Statutory and Case Law.
Mr. Shoun is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Fairfax Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. His reputation as a family law practitioner has for almost three decades earned him the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating ("AV"), as well as inclusion for more than two decades in the nationally recognized treatise, The Best Lawyers in America.
