Mr. Bonin received his undergraduate degree from Queens
College in New York City, and his law degree from William
Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He
concentrates and limits his practice of Virginia family law
and domestic relations cases, including Collaborative Divorce and Collaborative Law, preparation of
separation and property settlement agreements, equitable
distribution of property, child and spousal support issues,
custody and visitation, and negotiation, mediation and litigation of all
aspects of family law. His reputation as a family law
practitioner has earned him the highest Martindale-Hubbell
rating (AV) for more than two decades, as well as inclusion
for more than a decade in the treatise, The Best Lawyers in
America.
Mr. Bonin is a member of the Virginia, Fairfax and Prince
William County Bar Associations, and of the Virginia,
District of Columbia and Colorado State Bars. He was a
founder and former director of the National Center for Legal
Education.
Mr. Bonin is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial
Lawyers and has served as a Chapter President of this
prestigious organization. Based on his prior law practice in
Colorado, he was designated a lifetime fellow of the
Colorado Bar Foundation, an honor conferred on a select
group of lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the
legal profession. In 1997, Mr. Bonin was the recipient of
the Outstanding Professional of the Year Award, and in 2001
he was selected for the same award for an unprecedented
second time. The recipient of that award is selected by both
the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and
an Interdisciplinary Association consisting of family law
attorneys and mental health professionals. Mr. Bonin is a
past president of both organizations.
Mr. Bonin is a former co-author of the Lexis Law
publication, Domestic Relations Forms with Practice
Commentary, and served on the Editorial Board of
Divorce Litigation, a monthly publication of the National
Legal Research Group, Inc. He has been listed in the
Washington Post Magazine as one of Virginia's top lawyers.
He has lectured nationally and internationally on all
aspects of family law.
